Immanuel’s Time as a Degree Apprentice with Airbus

19 December 2024

We recently spoke to Immanuel, a former degree apprentice working for Airbus while studying an IoT programme through UCW. His journey highlights the perfect blend of academic learning and hands-on industry experience.

Immanuel chose a degree apprenticeship because of his passion for aerospace and the opportunity to work for one of the world’s largest aviation companies. Being able to gain work experience while earning a degree was the ideal path for him.

Throughout his apprenticeship, Immanuel completed various placements at Airbus, working on projects involving narrow-body planes, chief engineering, landing gear, and systems destination. He also contributed to engineering work on the iconic A350 and A380 aircraft. His goal is to become a general engineer, providing support across multiple teams and projects.

One of Immanuel’s proudest moments was delivering a presentation on the Future of Work to over 200 people. This allowed him to share his experiences and thank those who supported him throughout his apprenticeship. Another highlight was celebrating his graduation with family, marking the successful completion of his degree.

For anyone considering a degree apprenticeship, Immanuel shared this advice:

“Definitely be prepared to explore and have a mindset of exploring different areas. You’ll get so many opportunities at the end. Be yourself, and you can achieve anything that you want to achieve from either a career perspective or a personal perspective. Once you start on a degree apprenticeship, aim as high as you can!”

After completing his apprenticeship, Immanuel has progressed to studying for an Engineering with Business Management Masters degree at the University of Bath—demonstrating the exciting future that degree apprenticeships can unlock.
